With one finger on the ground

Hello again, I’m in San Diego International Airport at the moment and have been for several hours and will be for several more. The reason? Ten minutes before boarding my scheduled flight the pilot cut off his finger in a door. I do not know which door, but it was in the vicinity of the plane. It brought four EMTs and six police officers to the gate. The pilot walked unassisted and the finger was safely kept in a bag of ice. Sadly, or maybe not he was no longer our pilot so now I wait until a new crew can arrive at nine tonight to take me home.

I was really looking forward to putting the kids to bed tonight, but sometimes it’s just not meant to be. I think I’ll get in at about two or three tonight, and then up early for work tomorrow.

It’s not everyday this kind of excitement comes along. The good news about my trip thus far? (KT do not read) The nightlife was quite muted and I averaged about 10-12 hours of sleep every night. These are unheard of amounts and apparently totally needed. So now I am rested and the quick sleep turnaround on Friday ought not be so bad, and then on to the three day weekend!

Any of you have interesting flight stories to share?
